Sizar Alexis is a Swedish-Iraqi designer who is redefining modern design with his exploration of geometrical shapes and raw materials. His work is imbued with a sense of stillness and serenity while maintaining a strong character. Drawing on his personal and cultural narratives, as well as his own identity and position within the Chaldean diaspora and the design industry, Alexis combines his interest in Brutalist aesthetics with inspiration from the ancient Mesopotamian architectural and cultural heritage to create pieces that are imbued with a sense of both modernity and timelessness.
The Pilier Series is a unique combination of art and design, featuring ambitious pieces of furniture and objects made from steel. Crafted to perfection by Sizar Alexis in Eskilstuna, Sweden, the series is remarkable for its lack of welds. Rather, it is the custom-made threaded pins and nuts resembling pillars that form a secure mechanical bond between parts. The series celebrates the beauty and texture of raw steel, honoring a perfect harmony of craftsmanship and industrial production.
