T-TT01 is a minimalist side table designed by Damian Tatangelo for his design studio Terms. The table is the first in a series of objects for the young Melbourne-based studio. Tatangelo’s work aims to create clear and directly realizable designs inspired by industrial manufacturing processes.
The T-TT01 is characterized by its simple materiality and clean lines. It is made of steel and is available in two versions: a brushed stainless steel surface and a textured powder coating. The table is manufactured in Melbourne, with a focus on high quality and local production.
A simple, gestural approach defines Tatangelo’s design approach as he explains: “I’m mostly interested in the limitations of standardized steel/ metal stock and using this as a framework to work within. Employing a simple gestural approach using common industrial processes to achieve form and function.”
Once this gesture or technique is validated, it is consistently applied to a whole range of products within the product family, contributing to the overall aesthetic of the brand. This is demonstrated by the T-TT01, recognizable by the two folds in the middle vertical panel of the table.
Damian Tatangelo has his roots in Melbourne, where he was born in 1983 and graduated with a degree in Industrial Design in 2004. After a decade of experience in the Netherlands, he returned to Australia in 2016. His ambition is to apply the accumulated tricks, lessons, and technical solutions learned in mass production to his designs.
Terms will serve as an archive for Tatangelo’s work and a platform from which his ideas can be taken out into the world. Each piece of furniture produced under the label is intended for unlimited quantities and reflects the studio’s philosophy: a consistent commitment to design based on “singular ideas resolved in a direct manner utilizing industrial processes”.
