Meridiano is an unique art gallery located in Puerto Escondido on the coast of Oaxaca, Mexico. The institution was founded by Nicholas Olney and Boris Vervoordt and aims to provide an open framework for long-term, site-specific and experimental art exhibitions. Meridiano focuses on contemporary art and organizes two exhibitions per year. The program is based on the principles of dialogue and exchange and presents artworks by international artists. In so doing, Meridiano combines art, architecture and nature.
The architectural design by Tatsuro Miki and Axel Vervoordt emphasizes this fusion through a minimalist construction inspired by the natural environment of Oaxaca and using local materials. The gallery is located in a secluded area, surrounded by the wild beauty of the coast and the mountain range, which allows artists to engage intensively with nature.
