PKM Gallery presents the solo exhibition “Yun/Paris/Yun”, which focuses on the work of the renowned Korean artist Yun Hyong-keun (1928-2007). On display are 27 works created during two significant phases of the artist’s life: his time in Paris in the 1980s and his associated artistic development before and after this period.
Yun’s first stay in Paris in 1980 was motivated by his escape from the political climate in Korea. In Paris, he experimented with the traditional Korean hanji paper to give his art more precision. This approach gave him new confidence in his expression when he returned to Korea. Yun’s second connection to Paris took place in 2002 when he had a solo exhibition at Galerie Jean Brolly. This time his artistic approach was characterized by more powerful and larger canvases.
Yun Hyong-keun is known for his contribution to the Korean Dansaekhwa movement, with his works conveying the harmony between life and art.
