Aluminum Chair by Leon Ransmeier

The Aluminum Chair is a minimalist chair, designed by New York-based designer Leon Ransmeier. It was produced for the U-JOINTS exhibition curated by Aniina Koivu and Andrea Caputo during Salone Del Mobile in Milan, in 2018. This workshop prototype illustrates a flexible composite joint – the carbon fiber keeps the chair elastic by connecting two aluminum plates. The composite material flexes around the metal base when you sit on it. The chair can be tilted backward by rotating the front of the seat.

New York designer Leon Ransmeier was born in 1979 and has had his own design studio, Ransmeier Inc, since 2005. As a practical designer, he pays a lot of attention to the details of his designs, which he develops using scale prototypes. His work can be seen worldwide at various design exhibitions and in well-known collections.
