Chair 07 by Groundot

Chair 07 is a minimalist chair from the Korean design studio Groundot, characterized by its clean and geometric design language.

The design of Chair 07 expresses a rational, simple yet sculptural aesthetic through its vertical, horizontal and planar composition. A distinctive characteristic of the chair is its two legs at the front and only one leg at the back, which seamlessly continues into the backrest. This arrangement gives the chair a static yet primitive feel, which is emphasized by the deliberately minimalist refinement of its form. The assembled white oak surfaces offer synesthetic views reminiscent of three-dimensional monochromatic paintings that seem to change depending on the viewing angle.

The structure and fastening methods of the chair consider the unique physical properties of the material used, highlighting the original function and identity of the chair. The wooden surface is oiled white, which further emphasizes the natural texture of the wood.

Chair 07 was designed by Hyunjin Kim, founder of the design studio Groundot, with the vision of creating objects of lasting value that can provide daily inspiration. The pursuit of simplicity and clarity of restrained form is at the center of Groundot’s philosophy. To avoid overproduction, only as much as necessary is produced to order. All work is done manually to convey the creator’s intentions and emotions directly to the user.

It was intended to convey a static and primitive feeling through a minimally refined form.
