Contemporary Art Shows in February 2024 For Minimalist Art Lovers

February has a nice selection of exhibitions in store for lovers of minimalist aesthetics. In Switzerland, there is a solo exhibition by the well-known Dansaekhwa artist Ha Chong-Hyun. In Oslo, Galleri Riis is showing a selection of important works from the last two decades of Arne Malmedal’s oeuvre. With the exhibition “Hampstead Park”, Alzueta Gallery Madrid is showing new works by the Spanish painter Enrich R., which were created during his stay in the gallery’s residency program.

In Paris, Galerie Dutko is building a bridge between the past and the present with a retrospective of Robert Courtright’s collages, while new works by artist Richard Serra can be seen in Los Angeles. Finally, Cadogan Gallery in London is providing a sophisticated look at contemporary, reduced abstraction in a dialog between the artists Kim Bartelt, Annamarie Ho and Adelheid De Witte with the group exhibition “Soft Guidance”.

Exhibitions by the artists Mark Rothko in Paris and Lee Ufan in Berlin can be seen until April.

The exhibition at Almine Rech in Gstaad is the fifth solo exhibition of the Korean artist Ha Chong-Hyun, one of the main representatives of the Dansaekhwa movement. The exhibition presents new and recent works from his ongoing Conjunction series, which he has been painting since the 1970s. These works are characterized by Ha Chong-Hyun’s unique technique in which paint is applied not only to the front but also to the back of the canvas and pressed through, creating an interaction between materiality, light, texture, and color. The works reflect a harmony between material, process, and the artist’s inner state, evincing a meditative and philosophical calm.
