The exhibition “TRANSCENDENCE” at Pace in New York presents the works of the Vietnamese-French artist Huong Dodinh for the first time in the USA. This retrospective covers her artistic oeuvre from the 1960s to the present day and features both paintings and works on paper. The timing of the exhibition coincides with Frieze New York 2024 and will be accompanied by a new catalog published by Pace Publishing.
Dodinh, born in Vietnam in 1945 and settled in Paris after fleeing in 1953, has focused on the principles of light, density and transparency in her art. Known for her reclusive lifestyle, she manages every step of her artistic practice herself. Her technique involves making her own pigments and applying numerous thin layers of paint, giving her minimalist works a unique texture.
The show features nearly 30 works and represents her lifelong fascination with stillness, light and pure emotion expressed through an abstract visual language.
