Slewe Gallery presents a solo exhibition by Dutch artist Steven Aalders. It features new paintings inspired by Aalders’ return to his childhood home, an 18th century rectory in a natural landscape characterized by historic country estates.
The works reflect the romantic surroundings and combine modern minimalist aesthetics with classicist influences, particularly through the color palette of French painter Nicolas Poussin. Aalders, known for his methodical use of proportion and color in minimalist, geometric oil paintings, combines modern serial principles with profound historical and theoretical references to offer an aesthetic experience of light, space and time.
A brochure designed by Irma Boom complements the exhibition with a comprehensive documentation of images, texts by the artist and photographs by Kim Zwarts, visualizing the connection of the works to the place of their creation.
