Gallery Joeun will present the solo exhibition of Sung Yeonhwa, an emerging “blue-chip” artist in the Korean art scene, from December 5th, 2024, to January
4th, 2025.
‘Identity’ marks her 9th solo exhibition and is a year-end gift to the audience. Sung Yeonhwa graduated from the Calligraphy Department of Keimyung University in Daegu and continued her studies in contemporary abstract calligraphy in Japan. She has developed a unique visual language by merging traditional Korean paper (Hanji) and calligraphy into innovative artistic forms.
With her works achieving “soldout” success in major exhibitions and art fairs, she has gained recognition as a rising star in the domestic art scene. Sung Yeonhwa works have also received international attention, having been featured in group exhibitions in France, Spain, and the United States, and her pieces were completely sold at the 2021 LA Art Show, 2022 Focus Art Fair Paris, and Art Miami. Additionally, her works have appeared in commercials for the Samsung Galaxy Watch (2023, featuring Son Heung-min) and LG Ilroom (2023, featuring BTS’s RM), demonstrating her expansion into commercial brand advertising.
This exhibition, titled Identity, presents works that explore the passage of time, bridging the past and present and the fleeting emotions within that continuum, all through the aesthetics of restraint and emptiness. Featured works include Sung’s signature Identity series, the warm-toned Serenity, and the well-loved Flow series, encompassing 25 new pieces ranging from small works to large-scale pieces and installation works. These pieces will fill the gallery, offering deep emotional resonance and the artist’s unique aesthetic.
