Musée Soulages

Pierre Soulages, was an outstanding representative of abstract art, and is one of the world’s best-known contemporary French artists. He has exhibited in 90 museums, created more than 1,500 works of art and held numerous global exhibitions.

In 2005, Pierre Soulages and his wife Colette donated an impressive collection of 250 works and 250 documents by the artist to the municipality of Grand Rodez, the town of his birth. The donations represent his life’s work, from the oil paintings of the post-war period to his Outrenoir works, which are characterized by an intense exploration of the color black.

The permanent exhibition is accompanied by temporary exhibitions of other important artists.
