The Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum, now known as The Noguchi Museum, was founded in 1985 by artist Isamu Noguchi in Long Island City, Queens. It was the first museum in the United States designed by a living artist for his own works.
The goal of the institution is to promote understanding and appreciation of Noguchi’s art and legacy by allowing visitors to have personal experiences with his works without interpretive barriers. In addition to permanent installations, the museum offers changing exhibitions that highlight Noguchi’s influence on contemporary artists and cultures. It also serves as a center for research and education with a comprehensive archive of Noguchi’s works.
