Dear Durango, an emerging design studio, presents its first series of works: Norte (Spanish for “North”). Inspired by the collective imagination of northern Mexico and its natural heritage, the project strives to express Mexico’s cultural identity through the reinterpretation of utilitarian objects with artisanal value. The collection consists of different variants – in this article, we focus on the variant made of light wood.
The series plays an important role in the manifestation of Mexican identity and celebrates traditional craft techniques. At the same time, it establishes a relationship between regional identity and modern aesthetics. The collection promotes the use of indigenous woods. By using such materials, Dear Durango creates objects that are both environmentally conscious and representative of Mexican culture.
The minimalist design language of the Norte table embodies the essence of the collection, demonstrating the symbiosis between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design. Each element of the table reflects the influences and techniques that went into its making. The result is a unique and fascinating design object that immerses the viewer in the world of Northern Mexico.
