The Plan Chair is a modern, minimalist chair designed by Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby for Fredericia. The chair impresses with its restrained aesthetics and precise design language.
The chair’s striking design characteristic is the harmonious combination of straight and gently curved lines. The powder-coated tubular steel frame gives the chair stability and sturdiness and forms the basis of the chair. The seat and backrest made of plywood veneer fit seamlessly into the frame, creating a unified overall concept. Both are gently curved and ergonomically designed, offering a high level of comfort.
The Plan Chair is also characterized by its minimal footprint, making it ideal for spaces with a variety of uses – from hospitality to office applications and everyday living. The chair is designed to withstand the demands of intensive use while being easy to repair and disassemble, making it perfect for a circular economy. It is part of the wider Plan collection, which includes a range of materials and variations, including armchairs, tables, upholstered seats and bar stools.
Barber and Osgerby, who founded their studio in East London in 1996, are known for their experimental and innovative approach to design. Their work explores industrial processes and new technologies, and reflects an intense engagement with materials and color. With the design of the Plan Chair, Barber and Osgerby have created a balance between industrial elements and soft, humanistic curves.
