Richard Zinon is a contemporary British artist whose abstract works explore elemental features of painting such as form and depth, figure and ground. Born in Manchester in 1985, Zinon was drawn to Florence where he received his artistic training. Today he lives and works in Snowdonia in the UK.
Inspired by the chiaroscuro technique of the Renaissance masters, Zinon skillfully plays with light and shadow to create a stunning sense of depth. However, his abstract paintings are at the same time free of any figuration or complex symbolism. Instead, the artist invites the viewer to engage with the works and create space for inner reflection. “An intuitive understanding must come before intellectual comprehension,” Zinon emphasizes. “In that sense, the former delves more deeply into the heart of beauty.”1
Interestingly, Richard Zinon often dispenses with preliminary sketches, creating many of his works in a single sitting. This directness, lightness, and spontaneity are reflected in the powerful energy of his art: his paintings exude a meditative beauty that personally reminds me of Shodō, Japanese calligraphy.
Richard Zinon’s art captivatingly blends tradition and innovation. His paintings are a clear invitation to pause and explore the emotional depth behind each brushstroke. A beauty that touches the eye and the heart in equal measure. Zinon is represented by Cadogan Gallery in the UK and Italy and Alzueta Gallery in Spain.
Favouring large formats I invite the viewer to be absorbed by giving the opportunity for internal reflection.
